BITTER SWEET BRIGG SPORT AND LEISURE MEMORIES

Brigg cricketers, footballers, tennis and table tennis players, bowlers and drinkers who enjoyed the cheapest pints in the area will lament this scene (above) taken only recently (August 2018).
It shows the disused former Brigg Sugar Factory Social Club and adjoining playing field.
For decades there were prime facilities for various sports, with very low prices at the bar.
The closure of British Sugar's factory in the early 1990s meant not only the loss of many local jobs but also the social and sporting facilities once provided close to the A18 on Scawby Road, Scawby Brook - just beyond the boundary with Brigg.
On a happier note, Brigg Heritage Centre's Sports Exhibition has now closed. It proved to be a great success, bringing back memories for many visitors and informing younger people how things used to be.
Brigg Blog was pleased to supply a few items for display,  some written memories and a range of pictures from our archive.
