AMAZING SEASON FOR BRIGG SPORTSMAN
Brigg Town Cricket Club batsman Matthew Bell is enjoying a truly remarkable season in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League.
With only two games remaining in the 2018 campaign, Matthew is set to join a very small and select band of batsmen who have averaged more than 100 during a season in the long history of a league founded back in 1963.
At present he is averaging a staggering 140.40, having scored 702 runs, with two centuries and five half-centuries.
Matthew has been not out in six of 11 innings and has made almost one-third of Brigg Town's total runs.
No-one else playing in the six divisions of the Lincs League comes close to Matthew's batting average this season, the next best being Steve Wright, Louth's former South Kelsey strokemaker, with 64.11.
In division four games only (excluding cup matches) Matthew has made 536 runs in 2018 at an average of 134.00.
His career average for Brigg since 2010 has brought him more than 3,000 runs (average 63.28).
His top score for Brigg is an undefeated 204, scored against Hull Ionians Coal Exporters 2nds in 2013.
That was during Brigg's spell in the East Yorkshire Cricket Alliance division two in a match played at Brocklesby Park.
Brigg won that match by the huge margin of 276 runs.
There is an individual trophy awarded to the leading batsman in division four of the Lincolnshire League each season. It will be presented at the league's showpiece annual dinner, to be held at Hemswell Court.
