Real or plastic? |
When plastic flowers were first put in hanging baskets along the Old River Ancholme towpath, Brigg Blog said we liked them, although we must admit to having no interest at all in flora or gardening.
Coun Sharon Riggall, one of the new members of Brigg Town Council, asked about the use of artificial blooms in this location during a recent committee meeting. We got the impression that she takes a contrary view to ours.
There appear to be several reasons for using plastic flowers in the baskets beside the river, including removing the need to keep visiting them with a water bowser.
Town Mayor Coun James Truepenny, who was chairing the meeting, stressed that as the plastic blooms fade they can be replaced.
Brigg Town Council and North Lincolnshire Council work in partnership to provide flowers at various public areas in the town, including the Monument war memorial. They have what's called a service level agreement, with North Lincs neighbourhood services undertaking the planting and maintenance of the beds. And a very good job they do, in our humble opinion.
Returning to the topic of plastic flowers in baskets, we suggest it's a bit like being able to tell Stork margarine from butter.

When the plastic flower baskets scheme was introduced some time ago, the contractor changed the baskets to suit the season....but nothing appears to have happened for over a year....thus, last year's spring plastics have begun to fade....Has the contract ended?
