The Angel Suite, Brigg, being set out for a formal function. |
This information was revealed to Brigg Town Council's Policy Committee by Town Clerk Claire Davis, who said that in just four days there had already been a good response in terms of followers for @AngelSuiteBrigg
She also reported almost 1,000 'like' followers of Brigg Town Council on Facebook.
The Town Clerk stressed the importance of social media in publicising what the council does and what it can offer the community.
Thirty-five years ago, when we first began reporting on meetings of Brigg Town Council, the authority met once a month. Some of the business transacted appeared in the weekly Lincolnshire Times and Brigg Star and sometimes in the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph. And that was it for a month.
Today, through the wonders of the worldwide web, Brigg people can be kept informed of developments at any time of the day, as can former townsfolk now living elsewhere in the UK and in countries across the world.
Perhaps we could suggest that our small market town punches above its weight on the web. Brigg is not yet a heayweight but it moving up the divisions.
