BRIGG NOMINATIONS WELCOME FOR COMMUNITY AWARDS

FROM KIRSTY WESTFIELD, NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE COUNCIL

This year’s Community Champion Awards ceremony is fast approaching and so is the deadline for nominations, with just over a week to go for people to make their nominations before the 20 September deadline.
Have you made your nominations yet for an individual or group you believe deserves recognition? Hurry, before it’s too late. Nominate at: www.northlincs.gov.uk/champion.
If you know someone who deserves an award:

  • for the time they have dedicated to volunteering;
  • to recognise their personal achievement in overcoming barriers of excelling in sport or the arts;
  • for the work they’ve done in the local community; or
  • for being a true inspiration to others....?

...don’t hesitate, nominate them today.
There’s a choice of 22 categories under four main areas: Achievement (eight categories); Volunteers (three categories); Community (seven categories), and Inspiration (four categories). Details of the categories are available at www.northlincs.gov.uk/champion
Some of the awards you can nominate people or groups for include:

  • Sports Achiever of the Year
  • Young Arts Heritage Achiever of the Year
  • Community Contribution to Crime Reduction
  • Young Carer of the Year
  • Services to School Governance
  • Young Volunteer of the Year
  • Community Sports Team of the Year

Winners will receive a trophy and certificate, and runners-up will receive a certificate.
Last year’s winner of the Young Volunteer of the Year Award, Joshua Whitehorn, said: “I volunteer at a drama group for adults with learning difficulties who aren’t able to do it on their own. So, I come in and help boost their confidence levels and their abilities, and of course have fun with them.”
This will be the fourth Community Champions Awards, which is taking place at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe on Thursday 26 November.
Coun John Briggs, Cabinet Member for Assets, Culture and Housing, said: “The Community Champion Awards are for the community to recognise all the wonderful achievements of individuals and groups in North Lincolnshire. If you know of someone or a community group that you believe should be recognised for their hard work and dedication, then nominate them for an award. You only have until 20 September to make your nominations.”
