Finally tidying up a small weed-strewn Brigg garden may give a some satisfaction as a householder, but it has deprived the goldfinches of a regular food supply and removed the enjoyment of watching them perched on the stems of plants to get at the tasty bits.
Earlier today there was a hawfinch, and previous days have seen robins and even a wren.
Nothing much left in nature's local larder now!
