COULD BRIGG RAIL LINE TAKE EXPRESSES IN TIMES OF STRIFE?

Our Brigg Blog picture - taken some time ago - shows a very rare sight - a Trans Pennine Express train in Brigg station.

It's widely known that the Brigg railway line has an important role to play as an alternative route for freight trains between Immingham, Scunthorpe and Yorkshire.
When there are issues with the line between Barnetby, Scunthorpe and Doncaster they can switch goods trains onto the Brigg line.
So could they do the same with passenger trains?
On Tuesday, around 1530 hrs, the Keadby Canal bridge (NOT the main George V structure over the River Trent),  failed, rail campaigner Paul Johnson tells us, and 15 passenger trains were cancelled. This bridge is on the Doncaster to Scunthorpe route.
"There has been an ongoing issue with First Trans Pennine Express on why trains cannot run via the Brigg line en route to Sheffield," says Paul.
