RACING LEGEND JONJO O'NEILL'S STAFF COLLECT AWARD FROM BRIGG AREA FIRM

Stable staff from Jonjo O’Neill’s training yard landed £1,000 – plus boxes of Pipers Crisps - for having the most ‘best turned out’ racehorses at Market Rasen Racecourse this year.
The prize came courtesy of Elsham-based Pipers Crisps and the racecourse itself – and was presented during Betfred Summer Plate & Lincs FM Ladies’ Day, one of the most popular fixtures of the year.
There was a crowd of just under 10,000 spectators at the popular track to witness the ceremony when grooms Flo Willis and Derick Rezac (pictured) were presented with their reward by representatives of the Brigg area snacks company which was founded 12 years ago by three farmers.
Trainer Jonjo O’Neill said: “Market Rasen has always been one of my favourite racecourses. We’ve been lucky to have a fair few winners there over the years. The horses can’t always win so it’s brilliant for the team to come away with something and winning the ‘Best Turned Out Awards’ has become a bit of a habit. The staff who travel with the horses do a great job.”
Alex Albone, Brand Owner at Pipers Crisps, said: “Stable staff are the unsung heroes and heroines of the sport of horseracing and we are delighted to play our part in rewarding them for their efforts in looking after their horses and making racing days at Market Rasen Racecourse such a success.”
George McGrath, the Chief Executive of National Association of Stable Staff, said: “We welcome the initiative shown by Market Rasen Racecourse and Pipers Crisps in recognising the hard work the racing staff put into getting their horses looking their best.
“Not only do the staff work hard to get the horses looking great, they also make a great effort to make themselves look smart, not an easy task when you consider the nature of the work.
“Hopefully this will encourage other racecourses to follow the wonderful example shown by Market Rasen which is punching above its weight in terms of looking after the racing staff.”
Market Rasen Racecourse is staging 22 jump racing meetings in 2016 and is a leading conference and events centre in the East Midlands.
