Apologies for the rather unfortunate timing on our part, but North Lincolnshire Council planners have given the green light to an application for improvements at Sir John Nelthorpe School, where the heating system and some of the electrics need upgrading.
Listed building consent has been granted for a gas meter kiosk and internal maintenance works at the SJN Upper School, on Grammar School Road.
The heating system serving the old school, founded in 1669, needs replacing.
Consulted about this listed buiding consent application, Historic England told the council: "We note that applicant seeks to negotiate with National Grid that the meter be sited inside the building and we would strongly encourage this approach as the preferred option.
"However in the event that this is not possible and the gas meter can only be sited externally, we would advise that its position is very carefully considered, and that measures are taken to find and agree the most discrete location, where it will have least visible impact upon the Grade I listed building."
Although listed building consent has been granted, there a condition has been made, saying the gas meter kiosk shall not be installed until details of its final appearance "and any screening" are approved by the planning authority "and the kiosk shall be installed fully in accordance with the approved details."
