BRIGG TO THE RESCUE
Brigg came to the rescue yesterday (Monday, June 15).
The railway line though the town was used as a diversionary route for heavy freight trains when a landslip affected the track they should have trundled along in Scunthorpe.
Pictured above are empty biomass wagons from Yorkshire's Drax power station passing through Brigg on the way to Immingham.
We recorded the scene soon after noon.
Installed in March, the modern barrier crossing on the A1084 Bigby Road had only been used a few times... until yesterday.
Nine more freight trains were scheduled to run on Monday afternoon and last night.
Brigg's diversionary role is likely to continue for some days until the Scunthorpe problem has been resolved.
