BRIGG BINS: WERE ALL THE FULL ONES EMPTIED IN YOUR STREET?
Brown garden waste bins were all scheduled to be emptied in Brigg yesterday (Tuesday, June 9) for the first time in many weeks.
However, North Lincolnshire Council had advised householders in advance that bins which proved to be too heavy and/or had greenery piled up above lid level might not be emptied.
During a lengthy east to west walk across town yesterday we saw a number we thought might fall into the latter category.
Our own bin was full and heavier than normal but the lid was down and its contents were duly emptied into the truck. Hopefully yours was, too.
Any Brigg householders whose packed bins were declined by the council yesterday have the option of bagging the greenery and taking it to the recycling centre near Broughton or taking up the council's offer of a free home composter to process garden material.
Today the first compost bins will be delivered in Brigg to those who signed up to the Grow Don't Throw scheme.
The council says everyone who already has will receive their free compost bins over the next few weeks: if you have any queries about your delivery, email wastemanagement@northlincs.gov.uk
The authority says: "Join over 300 others who have signed up to swap their garden waste bin for a compost bin by going to www.northlincs.gov.uk/homecomposting ."
Garden waste collections were suspended early in the Corinavirus emergency, but other bins and recycling boxes have continued to be emptied in the usual manner.
The collection service in Brigg has now returned to normal, with the next garden waste emptying to be carried out two weeks from now - on Tuesday, June 23.
Brown bins will then be emptied again on July 7 and 21.
