A road closure in Brigg, which came into force earlier this week, has led to some traffic build-ups from what we observed while visiting this part of town yesterday (Thursday, April 11).
With Preston Drive closed to through traffic, drivers wanting to get between Grammar School Road and Hawthorn Avenue were being instructed (by signs) to use Glebe Road as a diversion.
Our pictures show the scene at both ends of Preston Drive, where drainage work being carried out for North Lincolnshire Council is earmarked to run from April 8 until Friday, April 19. Hopefully they will be able to finish the job earlier than that.
We visited the chip shop near the junction of Preston Drive and Grammar School Road around 6.30pm last night.
Knowing in advance about the roadworks, we parked up on Hawthorn Avenue and walked the remainder of the way. But while awaiting our freshly-cooked takeaway we observed some congestion on nearby Grammar School Road - the only way into and out of the Springbank housing estate.
We saw drivers turning round by reversing into a side road leading to the small housing development on the Vale Academy side of Grammar School Road, close to Beech Villas.
Grammar School Road - between the Glebe Road and Preston Drive junctions - has long been a bottleneck, not helped by a considerable amount of on-street parking.
Closure of Preston Drive has not helped the free flow of traffic, but this drainage work is clearly necessary.
The fish & chips were excellent, in case you were wondering, and plenty of customers were evident, which we were very pleased to see. It's business as normal so don't be put off.
