LOCAL DERBY AT BRIGG TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB

Brigg Town Football Club's Hawthorns ground was the venue for a local derby between Briggensians and Barnetby United, in the EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District League yesterday (Saturday, April 13).
Barnetby's Lee Fielden has kindly supplied the details below from a game that saw the Brigg team lose 4-3 to the visiting Railwaymen.
In division two, second-in-the-table Barnetby United Reserves enjoyed a 4-0 home win over Scotter United Reserves, the scorers being Josh Goodman (2), Kyle Sylvester and Ryan Frankish.

7 GOAL THRILLER SEES RAILWAYMEN RETAIN FIRST DIVISION STATUS

A relegation dog-fight that swung one way then the other and back again was decided late on as Brendan O’Callaghan’s late goal settled a 7 goal thriller at The Hawthorns.
Briggensians took the lead through Ryan Thompson but Greg Brackenbury’s first goal for the Railwaymen got his side on level terms. The dangerous Ben Lingard then put his side 2-1 up with his 32nd goal of a great season.
The Nelthorpe Old Boys lead 2-1 at the interval but within 5 minutes of the restart trailed 3-2 as Brackenbury added his second and Jake Parker put Barnetby 3-2 up.
On the hour Lingard hit his 2nd of the game to bring the scores level at 3-3 and the game looked to be heading for a draw until Brendan O’Callaghan notched with 5 minutes to go.
With everyone playing each other 3 times it’s a 21 game season,Barnetby can look forward to another season of first division football and stretch the run of top flight seasons to the best since the “Golden Age” for the club when they played in the Grimsby league top flight between 1948 and 1957.
