SUGGESTION TO REASSURE WEEKEND BRIGG SHOPPERS ARRIVING BY CAR

Now more Brigg shops and businesses are being permitted to reopen from Coronavirus lockdown, we suggest this might be a good time to review signage at/near the main Old Courts Road and Angel car parks - used by many visitors. The aim is to make things clearer for drivers.
We suggest signs should state: 'Free parking ALL DAY Saturday and Sunday - no need to obtain and display a ticket.'
Some shoppers/visitors continue to arrive at weekends, park their vehicles and then wonder whether they need to  obtain a ticket and display it in their front windscreen.
One weekend recently a driver was advised to get a ticket, only to be told by a 'local' near one of the metres that this was unnecessary. In the end, for piece of mind, the motorist opted to key in the vehicle number and display.
That's not an isolated incident. Nor it is something new; there has been some confusion for a considerable time.
North Lincolnshire Council, with its generous free parking concession, and the proprietors of local businesses, want to see people coming to shop in Brigg. So being able to park up and then head straight into the town centre without worrying about whether a ticket should have been displayed, benefits everyone, including visitors who will hopefully return again and again.

It would also be useful to erect new signs saying: 'Free parking ALL DAY Saturday and Sunday - no need to obtain and display a ticket' where drivers approach the Old Courts Road car park on the A18 (from both directions) and then somewhere along Old Courts Road before the entrance to the car park.
The same should apply at, or near, the entrance to the Angel car park, off Elwes Street, we suggest.

Above is the current wording about charges, which says 'Excluding Saturdays & Sundays'.
The wording does not indicate whether drivers at weekends need to obtain a ticket to enjoy free parking for up to two hours, up to four hours or all day. But it does say: "Ticket must be obtained and displayed." It also warns drivers about penalties.
