BRIGG STREET NUMBERING SEEMS ODD - EVEN TODAY!

Brigg street numbering has become increasingly relevant in recent years with a huge surge in items bought online from stores and producers which require delivery to the door by someone who may well be unfamiliar with the area.
Their task in locating Brigg properties listed on the packages is not helped by some odd street numbering - much of which evolved decades ago.
We were reminded of this by an application currently going through the the planning process. It relates to proposed extensions at 1 Glanford Road, which we decided to take a look at while returning from the town centre.
Entering Glanford Road near the Monument, we soon found No 2 on the left, but there was no sign of No 1 adjoining or opposite.
We had to walk a couple of hundred yards and pass more than 40 evenly-numbered properties until finally spotting No 1 - on the other side of the road.
Back in the 1920s and 1930s, Brigg Urban District Council developed new streets without thought to the confusion that might result from putting Central Square inside Woodbine Avenue, East Parade and West Square.
It would have been less confusing if they had never introduced Central Square and had just made the 30-plus properties in question members of the streets they faced.
In more recent times, new house-building on Grammar School Road (near the chip shop) was resolved by creating numbers 84A, 84B, 84C and 84D.
