DOUBLE-SIZED BINS ON OFFER TO BRIGG HOUSEHOLDS

Much bigger garden waste bins are being offered to householders in Brigg and surrounding settlements - for an additional charge.
Residents can stick with their existing 140-litre brown bin if they wish, but there's now an option to request a 240-litre replacement, holding 70 per cent more of the green stuff.
North Lincolnshire Council says: "This enhanced service only costs £39 a year for collecting the bigger bin."

The local authority explains that, for people with larger gardens, this will reduce the need to travel to household waste recycling sites, lowering their carbon footprint.

Brigg's Coun Rob Waltham, pictured, the Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This is fundamentally about two things; protecting the environment and offering residents a choice as to what best suits their needs. The existing 140 litre brown scheme will remain free of charge, making us one of the only councils in the county to provide a free universal garden waste collection service."
Coun David Rose, cabinet member for the environment, said: "The charge at £39 is competitive and only recovers the council’s costs for providing the additional service."
