BRIGG COUNCILLOR WELCOMES EXPANSION WHICH COULD CREATE 1,200 NEW JOBS

Brigg councillor Rob Waltham, pictured above, has welcomed commercial expansion which could bring 1,200 new jobs to North Lincolnshire.
The vacancies are set to be created in Barton - 12 miles away - but may well interest people living in Brigg and surrounding communities who have their own transport.

FROM CHRIS O'ROURKE, NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE COUNCIL

Barton-based Wren Kitchens are looking to expand their site in the town, in a move that could create 1,200 jobs.
Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “It’s a fantastic vote of confidence for the business and for North Lincolnshire’s economy that Wren Kitchens is looking to expand its operations in Barton.

"North Lincolnshire Council has worked closely with the business on their development plans.
“The move could see more highly skilled jobs brought to our area, and such large private investments often prove to be a catalyst for other, further investments in the surrounding areas.
“I welcome Wren’s consultation with residents so that we can ensure any expansion of their site in Barton is carried out considerately.
“North Lincolnshire, is ideally located to allow major businesses like Wren Kitchens to access the rest of the region and the country easily by road and rail. Wren have obviously recognised that North Lincolnshire has the space their business needs to grow, and a workforce with the skills they need to support that growth.”
Wren Kitchens Managing Director, Mark Pullan, said: “This project will be the largest single investment in Wren’s history and, having considered different locations both across the UK and abroad, we believe that developing the existing site in Barton-upon-Humber provides us with the best solution.
“This investment demonstrates our commitment to manufacturing in the UK and particularly the Humber Region. Subject to receiving planning approval, it will be funded internally without any requirement for government grants."
Wren Kitchens is hosting a consultation session at Baysgarth School, Barton, on 11 June from 4pm to 8pm to speak to local residents about the provisional expansion plans.
After launching ten years ago, Wren is now the largest kitchen manufacturer and retailer in the UK, employing over 4,000 people.

Ok having expansion but you need to get the workers to work, poor public transport will mean these jobs are for car owners only.
