CALL FOR 'BLANKET BAN' ON DRINKING ALCOHOL IN ALL BRIGG PLAY AREAS

Brigg residents are to be given a golden opportunity to raise topics of interest to them and also put questions to town councillors.
An Annual Town Meeting is held each spring, and 2019's will take place on the evening of Monday, March 25 in the Angel Suite.
A public forum forms the main part of the get-together, and an annual report will be given by the Town Council - looking back over the past 12 months.
But during the authority's February meeting, Town Clerk Dinah Lilley asked what other items councillors thought should go on the agenda for March 25.
Coun Ann Eardley suggested old buildings within the town, feeling that information outlining their interesting histories should be compiled.
Coun Mike Storey said this should be displayed on the buildings in question.
The Town Clerk saw this as a long-term project - one to be discussed with Brigg Heritage Centre.
Town Mayor Coun Donald Campbell suggested Brigg in Bloom was an ideal topic for the Annual Town Meeting and asked Coun Sharon Riggall whether she would prepare a report.
Coun Eardley then raised the issue of alcohol being consumed on the riverbank and near the Memorial Garden, with up to 15 people gathering at a time. Could this be banned by a by-law?
Coun Penny Smith recalled this came close to happening many years ago.
However, the stumbling block was police being available to enforce the restriction.
Coun Eardley responded by calling for a "blanket ban" on drinking alcohol in all the children's play areas in Brigg.
The agenda for the Annual Town Meeting will be drawn up nearer the time, and publicised by Brigg Blog ahead of the session.
Sadly, not a single member of the public was present at the February meeting of Brigg Town Council, so the agenda item "Public Question Time" was soon dealt with!
