TIME TO SHOW HOW PROUD WE ARE OF BRIGG RECREATION GROUND

Brigg Recreation Ground, operated by North Lincolnshire Council - picture taken February 2019

The old saying - taken from a Biblical parable - about not hiding your light under a bushel surely applies to Brigg Recreation Ground in 2019.
North Lincolnshire Council has invested heavily in providing a 'Blue Astro' floodlit pitch, all-weather tennis courts and a five-star changing room block, plus helping to improve the cricket area.
But rather than providing a large and prominent sign near the entrance, they've merely left the old one in place.
It's hidden behind a hedge and is therefore 'missed' by thousands of drivers passing by on the A18, Wrawby Road, who are heading out of town.
Even those coming into Brigg - on the opposite carriageway - are unlikely to see it.
Credit where credit's due; the council has provided Brigg with a sporting centre in which townsfolk can take real pride.
So let's have a sign in keeping with this prestigious project!
When Glanford Borough Council - not usually one to spend a penny when a halfpenny would do - ran The Rec even it had more prominent signage, visible over the hedge bordering Wrawby Road.
This sign proclaimed the fact that it was Glanford Recreation Ground, not Brigg Rec.
That was fair enough, as Glanford was paying for the upkeep of a Brigg facility which had been run by Brigg Urban District Council until 1974.
We suggest a large new sign goes up in front of the fencing and perimeter hedge, stating it's North Lincolnshire Council's Brigg Recreation Ground, outlining the facilities available, how much has been spent and perhaps giving the contractor(s) that did the work a mention in dispatches.

The Brigg Recreation Ground entrance road sign (top picture) is hidden away round the corner and behind the hedge, rather than being visible to approaching motorists, including visiting sports teams. However, there is a small directional sign saying 'Football Ground' -  shared vehicular access now being enjoyed by Brigg Town FC's Hawthorns ground and The Rec.
