DATE & DETAILS: BRIGG TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB TO HOST ADRIAN GIBBONS MEMORIAL FOOTBALL MATCH 2019

Adrian Gibbons - the popular Brigg teacher and local footballer - who died in 2014, aged 63. A charity football match is held in his memory each spring

The annual Adrian Gibbons memorial football match will be played in Brigg on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at The Hawthorns - courtesy of Brigg Town FC. That's a bank holiday weekend.
The match - involving many local players who knew him well - will kick-off at 2pm, and all money raised on the day will go to charity.
Organiser Jon Taylor tells Brigg Blog: "The game will be between Brigg Town Over 40s, as we are looking at starting a team, versus Briggensians and friends.
"There will be the usual old faces like Col Mumby. All raffle prizes will be gratefully received and all money raised will go to charity.
"We raised about £900 last year and although we may not raise this again it is a great family day out and a chance to remember a dear old friend - Gibb.
"If anyone wants to play, donate raffle prizes or money then email jontaylorbrigg@aol.com ."
Many of the players and spectators will be having an after-game drink or two in the Hawthorns bar and then local pubs, raising a glass (or several!) in memory of Gibb, pictured above.
A former pupil of Brigg Grammar School, he was a very well-known local sportsman, a long-serving teacher at Sir John Nelthorpe School and a devoted family man.
He played football for a number of local teams, including Brigg Town and Briggensians in the  Scunthorpe & District League.
Well over 600  mourners attended Gibb's funeral service held at St John's Church in March 2014. Read Brigg Blog's tribute to him through this link...
There will be much interest in local sporting circles about the suggested formation of a Brigg Town Over 40s football team. We hope to keep you up to date with how this progresses. Just as well it's not aimed at the Over 60s, or we'd have to keep our head down. Col Mumby is still  a signed on player in local league football, but most of us from his sporting era are long past it!
