BRIGG PEOPLE ON TRACK TO ENJOY A NIGHT OF NOSTALGIA

People from Brigg and district who have an interest in  nostalgia are being invited to attend a special event  in the Railways Remembered series which has proved popular every autumn for the past 11 years.
An illustrated talk called British Railways & Nationalised Transport will be enjoyed on Thursday,  November 15 at The Memorial Hall, Grimsby Road, Cleethorpes, DN35 8AH, starting at 7.30pm.
Lincolnshire-born film archivist and railway enthusiast Rob Foxon has been touring Britain with archive film screenings for over 40 years, but always looks forward to returning home.
He told Brigg Blog: "Transport in Britain was nationalised by the Labour Government of the day 70 years ago in 1948 with the formation of the British Transport Commission whose task was to integrate all forms of transport and make it work together in harmony and not in competition with each other.
"Best remembered from those days is British Railways, mainly because it was by far the largest of all the transport executives, but older folk may remember British Road Services (BRS), British Waterways, the British Transport Docks & Harbour Board (which included the ports of Grimsby & Immingham), London Transport and even British Transport Hotels which included the Yarborough Hotel in Grimsby.
"The new film programme explores this golden age of transport with rare post-war archive footage including steam on British Railways, together with a wider look at transport in Britain; bus services, road haulage, the broad waterways (River Trent) and the steam-hauled Royal Scot express in 1955.
"Highlights include rare archive footage of Cleethorpes promenade in 1949 (in colour!) and a special screening of a recently discovered, long forgotten film about the work of the ports of Grimsby and Immingham in 1967. Grimsby has a very rich transport heritage.
"Supporting the event will be the publicity stands of the Friends of the Barton Line, the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway, the Grimsby Branch of the Workers' Educational Association, classic models and more."
Rob is looking forward to presenting the show and reminiscing as much as his audience.
It will be nostalgia all the way with genuine historic film footage screened using a vintage film projector, just like those of a certain age may remember from school (in Rob’s case, Harold Street Secondary Modern).

There’s nothing digital about this event!
Tickets cost  £7 and will be on sale at the door of the venue on the night.

Brigg Blog has attended some of the previous shows and gives this series a high recommendation if you want to enjoy a night of nostalgia.
