Brigg & Goole MP Andrew Percy is trying to help small businesses that will be affected by proposed changes at the Lloyds Bank branch on Wrawby Street, Brigg.
The branch will close for three weeks from September 21. Under the proposals, when it reopens next month there will be additional cashpoints and machines for paying in cheques and banknotes, but no longer the familiar counter service for depositing coins, which will affect small business customers.
The MP, pictured above, has now met Lloyds to discuss the Brigg branch restructuring.
In a social media post, he said he had expressed the concerns of local residents who rely on the branch.
He asked why a counter can’t remain open for certain customers, such as small businesses, who rely on the particular services in provides.
"They said they will look into this and get back to me shortly," our MP revealed.
Lloyds told Andrew Percy it is responding to changes in technology and banking needs.
"They were happy that they are investing in the branch and that there are therefore no current plans for the branch to close," he added.
"I expressed the concerns of local residents who are unhappy with the branch going 'counter-free' and, as a consequence, a number of services no longer being available.
"I asked for an outline of what services will be available after the restructuring compared to what is currently available - which they will get back to me on.
"Lloyds did explain that there will be staff on hand in the branch to answer any questions, show customers how to use the self-service machines and help with internet banking and mobile apps."
The MP said he was reassured these changes represent an investment in this branch at a time when many other bank branches are closing across the country.
Brigg has already seen the closure of the HSBC and NatWest branches within the town centre.
