BIOMASS ENERGY PLANT NEAR BRIGG SEEKING TO INCREASE OPERATIONS

A biomass energy plant near Brigg is looking to extend production.
It is seeking permission from North Lincolnshire Council to increase the yearly processing tonnage from 35,000  to no more than 48,000.
The plant at Hibaldstow airfield  uses non-waste plant material.
Merlin Renewables Ltd, of Surrey, has submitted an application to the council, which is now being considered.
The anaeorobic energy plant processes non-waste plant material.
The original application anticipated "majority use of maize" but this has now been extended to include rye and sugar beet.
This flexibility means the operator is not reliant on one crop.
The site is located east of the B1206 Redbourne Road, approximately 800m north of the centre of Redbourne village, approximately 1.8km south of Hibaldstow and 7km south of Brigg.
The biomass renewable energy plant produces gas to be  injected into the National Grid gas network.
"The facility will also produce approximately 9,000 tonnes of biofertiliser, of which 7,000 tonnes will be liquid fertiliser and 2,000 tonnes will be solid fertiliser," the council has been told.
It is said that the proposal will generate, on average, around six vehicle movements a day during the nine month non-harvesting period.
