PLANS TO REPLACE WELL-KNOWN BRIGG PREMISES WITH NEW HOUSING AND RETAIL UNIT

The former Sherwood Cycles shop in Brigg - August 2020

Plans have been announced to demolish the former Sherwood Cycles premises in Brigg and then erect three residential dwellings, a retail unit and garages on the sizeable site at 11-12 Bridge Street, on the corner of Forrester Street.

The existing buildings - located within the Conservation Area - are in a very poor state of repair, says a report submitted to North Lincolnshire Council with the planning application.
"Through sensitive design and a use of materials which are already present in the Conservation Area this proposal will complement its surroundings and improve the overall appearance of the gateway into Brigg Town centre," the application states.
Due to the existing buildings' poor structural condition "the only financially viable option (if regeneration in this area is sought) is demolition with a sympathetic new build," the report says.

"It is believed that the scheme presented here provides the best opportunity for this gateway site to enhance both the Conservation Area and the town centre location."
Brigg Town Council will be consulted about this planning application; North Lincolnshire Council will then decide whether to grant permission.
The applicant is Phil Drury through his agent Flynn Architecture.
