Brigg folk who are out and about in the town centre this weekend have the chance to visit two pubs which reopened earlier this week after lockdown, and they also have a golden opportunity to use a new family-related facility while enjoying a drink on licensed premises.
Saturday and Sunday (August 15/16) the Dying Gladiator, on Bigby Street, and the Yarborough Hunt, on Bridge Street, will be serving their first weekend customers since late March when Coronavirus emergency measures shut all licensed premises across the UK.
Andy Devai's Snack Shack at the Dying Gladiator is now opening Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from 4.30pm until late, offering fast food. Delivery from this mobile catering outlet is also available for those who can't make it in person to the Glad's beer garden.
The Yarborough Hunt is advising weekend customers to book places in advance to ensure seating/tables are available when they need them.
We requested a slot by way of a message through the pub's Facebook page, and they messaged back to confirm the booking.
The Woolpack has now added some temporary tables and chairs outside its frontage on the Market Place, which we noted people using earlier this week.
Brigg Town FC has designated Saturday, August 15 as Club Day at the Hawthorns, when everyone interested in supporting the Zebras, on and off the field, will be made welcome from noon onwards.
Club Day offers families an opportunity to try out the new play area near the clubhouse, complete with bouncy castle, slides and swings. It's FREE to use and available to families whenever the licensed bar/Pips Kitchen are operating. There is no requirement to be a signed-up club member - all welcome!
Jim Huxford has kindly given us the current Hawthorns club opening hours: Monday to Wednesday, 5pm to 11pm; Thursday & Friday, 3pm to 11pm; Saturday & Sunday, 11am-11pm.
Pips Kitchen serves breakfasts, snacks and main meals each weekend and also has ice creams and lollies available to youngsters using the play area.
Brigg Town Cricket Club will continue its group games in the Challenge Trophy on Saturday 15th - away to East Halton. Having won one and lost one so far, Brigg players have other games to come on August 22 and 29 - away to Grimsby Town and then Cleethorpes. The 2020 season did not start until August 1 due to government restrictions.
Anti-Covid-19 measures are in force at Brigg & District Servicemen's Club where sanitising wipes are in use on the Coney Court venue's pool table and cues - two people only permitted at a time near the green baize. The club bar has reopened but weekend live music is yet to resume.
Wetherspoon's White Horse will, as ever, be busy this weekend, and we also anticipate plenty of custom for the Britannia and the Black Bull on Wrawby Street and the Lord Nelson in the Market Place. The Exchange bar is now the only one in Brigg that has still to reopen. On Wednesday evening we saw, and heard, many scooters heading towards the White Horse. Some appeared to date back as far as the 1960s and 1970s. Did some of them make a pit stop outside Wetherspoon's?
