CRICKET ROUND-UP: BRIGG REC SEES TWO CENTURIES SCORED WHILE BROUGHTON WIN THE LOCAL DERBY

Two unbeaten centuries were scored by batsmen during the cricket match played at Brigg Recreation Ground yesterday (Saturday, June 19). And that has not happened very often at the Wrawby Road venue down the years.
Matthew Bell cracked an undefeated 123 for Brigg but his fine knock was later eclipsed by visiting opener Danny Bevis who made 149 not out for Caistor 2nds as the visitors eased to victory by two wickets.
Brigg rattled up a creditable 226 for five in their 45 overs - Jack Richards supporting Matthew's 'ton' with 40 while Harry Cawkwell scored 29 not out.
However, Caistor were not daunted by their sizeable target and scored the winning run with six of their 45 permitted overs to spare. Brigg's most effective bowler was Vijay Raju who took three wickets.

Despite losing, the home side gained eight bonus points from yesterday's match and are mid-table in Lincolnshire County Cricket League Division Three.

Meanwhile, Broughton strengthened their Division One promotion push with a very comfortable local derby home win over Hibaldstow.
The visitors were bowled out for only 44 by the league leaders for whom Shaun Clark took three wickets for only seven runs. Broughton openers Neil Simpson and Richard Stone then steered their side to another maximum 20-point haul inside 14 overs after the interval. The winning margin was 10 wickets.
Broughton 2nds journeyed to Grimsby Town 2nds for a Division Two fixture but were beaten and collected only three points.
Grimsby posted 207 for eight as Matthew Oades claimed three wickets for Broughton who were then dismissed for 115 to which Jamie Robinson contributed 55.
