Brigg Sugar Factory provided our area with a very visible and familiar landmark (seen above in 1977) and today two power stations - occupying part of the huge former factory site - take the eye.
The factory, which opened in 1928, become a major local employer but suffered progressive closure during the early 1990s.
A small portion of the vast site was returned to use in 1993 when Glanford Brigg Power Station (gas powered) opened.
It was followed in 2016 by the Brigg Renewable Energy Plant, providing 'green electricity' generated from plant material.
The power stations brought welcome new jobs but nothing to compare with the hundreds employed at the height of the sugar factory - permanently and also seasonally during the annual beet-processing 'campaigns'.
The factory's entry road in Scawby Brook is still present, as are its former sportsground and social club.
However, it's many years since bowls, tennis, cricket and football matches were played on the field (adjoining Ancholme Leisure Centre) or a pint was served in the licensed bar (now boarded up). Its beer prices were among the lowest in North Lincolnshire.
