The mild winter has saved a bit of public money in Brigg.
As there were relatively few days of frost and no significant snowfalls, the salt bins provided at various locations around the town were hardly ever required. And, in most cases, the lids were never lifted. So there was no need to replenish supplies.
These bins are kept well-stocked from late October with a magical mix which can be spread on footpaths by community-minded local residents during wintry weather. Salts of the earth - one and all!
North Lincolnshire Council makes Brigg shopping centre a priority if things get slippery underfoot, while Brigg Town Council has a volunteer snow warden to co-ordinate efforts if things turn really nasty. However, taming another Beast From the East has not been required since November.
