BRIGG WILL BE FLYING THE FLAG ON VE DAY 2020

Colourful new bunting will be in place in Brigg town centre when celebrations are held to mark the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE Day) this spring.
Brigg Town Council recently placed an order for bunting, and Town Clerk Dinah Lilley told the February meeting that it had already been delivered and stored away.
A town handyman will install it in readiness for the VE Day anniversary on Friday, May 8 - declared a bank holiday across the UK by the Government.

Brigg Town Council has managed to sell previously-used bunting it had in stock to help with the cost of providing the new strands.
The Mini Big Horns Band, offering sounds of the 1940s, will play during a special event at Brigg & District Servicemen's Club, Coney Court, on Friday, May 8 - from 7.30pm.
Tickets, costing £5, went on sale some time ago. Everyone is welcome and there will be a buffet. Those attending are very welcome to "dress up" in 1940s attire.

VE Day in 1945 marked the end of hostilities with Germany, but the Japanese did not surrender in the Far East until late summer -  resulting in August's VJ Day. Brigg is also expected to mark the 75th anniversary of that in summer 2020.

The Town Council is endlessly buying bunting...it may make the high street colourful, but there is more modern street decorations that are more enduring and don't need 'stress testing' at anchor points.
