TIMES PAST IN BRIGG TOWN CENTRE
This building in Brigg town centre is currently listed 'for sale' on the local property market through agents Paul Fox. See details here...
No 57 Wrawby Street has been a shop for many years, but when this picture was taken in the mid-1960s it was occupied by the Lincolnshire Times newspaper.
On the ground floor was reception and the photographer's darkroom, the newsroom and advertising office were above, while the top storey was used for storage.
The weekly newspaper closed in 1985 and the building was sold, with the upper floors being converted into flats.
More senior Brigg Blog followers will recall the Lincolnshire Times showcasing its black and white prints in the front window, changing the display every week.
Passers-by often stopped to look at the pictures to see if they could spot someone they knew. In a small town this was highly likely.
The traditional broadsheet paper sold many glossy prints to readers wanting a keepsake of issues in which they had featured.
Parents often bought Times pictures of their children in school events or taking part in the music and drama festival at the Corn Exchange. Sporting team pictures were another big seller.
