PROMOTED BRIGG TOWN CRICKETERS TO OPEN SEASON WITH LOCAL DERBY

Brigg Town Cricket Club - newly-promoted to division three of the Lincolnshire County Cricket League - is set to open the new season with an interesting local derby.
The provisional fixture list has Brigg visiting near neighbours Broughton 2nds on Saturday, April 20, 2019.
Town's first home game at Brigg Recreation Ground is earmarked for Saturday, May 11, with Lindum 3rds the visitors.
Brigg's final fixture will be away to Lindum, in Lincoln, on Saturday, September 14.
In the Supplementary Cup, Town have been drawn in Group B and will play mini-league matches next June against Messingham 2nds, Scunthorpe Town 3rds (who play at Hbaldstow) and Haxey 2nds. Winners of the four groups progress to the semi-finals.
Broughton's first team will again be playing league games in division one, their opener being at home to Alkborough on Saturday, April 27.
Hibaldstow will begin the 2019 season with a division two visit to Grimsby Town 2nds on April 20.
In the Bob Welton Cup knockout competition, first round ties will be played on Saturday, May 4. Hibaldstow will host Cleethorpes 3rds, while Broughton first teamers journey into the Isle of Axholme to take on Outcasts 2nds at the impressive Hirst Priory venue.
Fixtures at this early stage are still subject to alteration, but there are not expected to be too many affecting local teams.
Brigg Town were very convincing winners of division four this summer and proud to clinch the championship with only one defeat.
The club first played in division three after first gaining election to the Lincolnshire League way back in 1976.

Homes games that season were also at Brigg Rec, though a move to groundsman Stan Beedham's pristine square at Sir John Nelthorpe School soon followed.
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Brigg played first team fixtures at the Sugar Factory ground, off Scawby Road, helping to boost bar takings in the clubhouse after games.
After that it was back to SJN and then to Brigg Rec.
The Brigg club has used one other ground in the town, playing a few Sunday matches in 1979/80 at Vale of Ancholme School.
