RE-ARRANGED AVIATION FESTIVAL AT HIBALDSTOW

People from Brigg and district will be joining others from across the area  next weekend at an aviation festival with stalls, a wide range of refreshments and live music.

FROM KIRSTY WESTFIELD, NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE COUNCIL

North Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Festival is set to take place on Sunday 30 September at Skydive Hibaldstow after the previous date in July was postponed due to bad weather.
Supported by the council, Northern Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Forum and Skydive Hibaldstow are working together to host the festival at the former RAF Hibaldstow airfield from 10am to 4pm.
The event will celebrate the eight airfields across Northern Lincolnshire and focus on the aviation history of the area.
The story of Northern Lincolnshire’s heritage from World War One to the present day will be told throughout the day. It will celebrate the heroes from this area and those who came to fight alongside the British forces in both world wars.
Throughout the day you’ll be entertained with live music from Lady Kingsnorth and George Formby Experience. There will also be a range of food, drink, charity and trade stalls, including:

  • Stalls include:
  • Pizza Da Angelo
  • Coffee on the Run
  • Roe’s Farm Dairy
  • Jamie’s Sweet Emporium
  • Dinky Donuts
  • Hog Roast Lincolnshire
  • On Yer Bike ice cream
  • Fabulously Fruity Wine
  • Usborne Books
  • Tina Johnson, selling ladies' clothes, hats, shoes and Army and Navy clothes
  • RSPB
  • Bike Tours for the Wounded
  • Plus many more
A memorial ceremony is planned at 3.30pm. This is one of eight memorial ceremonies planned for each airfield across Northern Lincolnshire. It is a unique tribute for the RAF 100 commemoration, remembering the role that the personnel of these airfields played in both World War One and World War Two, in particular those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Northern Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage, Hibaldstow History Group, North Lindsey College, Lincolnshire Aviation Society and RNAS North Killingholme will have exhibitions on display.
You’ll be able to have a go in the Spitfire cockpit simulator and take a look at a range of classic cars and wartime transport on display.
You can also watch skydives taking place throughout the day. There will also be children’s activities throughout the day and airsoft.
20-21 Visual Arts Centre will be providing a range of craft activities throughout the day.
Hibaldstow Astronomical Society will be there promoting the science of astronomy with a display of telescopes including the ability to view the sun safely, giving a view of the sun normally only seen at a total eclipse.
The festival is free but any donations are welcomed. All proceeds will go to the Northern Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Forum to help with the continued success of the festival.
Cllr Elaine Marper, cabinet member for Public Participation and Culture, said: “North Lincolnshire has a really interesting aviation history that people can discover and explore at the Aviation Heritage Festival. Last year’s event was a great success and we’re expecting this year’s to be even better.
“It was a real shame when the event planned for July had to be cancelled due to the bad weather. However, it wouldn’t have been safe to go ahead.
“The rearranged event in September is going to be fantastic with lots for the family to see and do. It’s definitely not one to miss so make sure you get the festival in your diary.”

N.F ADDS:
There was to be a a flypast by planes from RAF Coningsby's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight  on the festival's original date in July. See details here... However, we've been informed there will be no flypast this Sunday (September 30).
