BRIGG BLOG PUTS ITS SHIRT ON TOWN CRICKETERS HAVING AN ENJOYABLE SEASON

Although now long retired from playing club cricket, hockey and football, Brigg Blog well remembers the sense of anticipation that the start of each new season brings for players of all ages.
It is going to be a promotion or cup-winning year? Will it be an average season? Or is a battle against relegation on the cards?
We were reminded of this on Sunday evening when invited by Brigg Town Cricket Club to attend a pre-season get-together at the Lord Nelson Hotel, which is to be the players' watering hole in the months ahead (see picture above).
The club was distributing new shirts to the players, received as part of a sponsorship agreement with a local firm.
Brigg Town CC says: "We are pleased to announce that we have a shirt sponsor this season. Phil Davis, of Sintra, has kindly funded these and we would like to thank him for his support.
"We would also like to thank Wasp Sports Supplies, of Brigg, who have provided an excellent service all round.
"As a club we are really looking forward to the season especially after our hard work getting the Rec Ground up to standard has paid off."
Brigg Town will be  playing Saturday matches in division four of the Lincolnshire County Cricket League.
For a number of seasons all home games had to take place on borrowed grounds like Hibaldstow and Brocklesby Park while Brigg Rec was being refurbished.
But now the boys are back in town!

Senior players in their shirts and caps ahead of the start of the 2018 Brigg Town Cricket Club season. Chairman Mark Cawkwell, left, and 'Captain Beaky' Nigel Beacock, skipper and secretary.  Brigg Blog recalls being awarded a coveted club cap back in 1975. You then had to take five wickets in a league game or score a half-century. Ours was achieved by taking six for 40 away to East Halton in 1975 - Brigg's opponents this coming Saturday. East Halton won that game 43 years ago.
