LANDMARK DAY FOR BRIGG TOWN CRICKET CLUB

Weather permitting, it will be a landmark day for Brigg Town Cricket Club tomorrow (Saturday, May 12).
Following extensive refurbishment of the Recreation Ground, the local club will be playing its first home league game for some years, having needed to use borrowed grounds like Hibaldstow and Brocklesby until things were brought back to the required standard.
Much work has gone into improving the playing area, and North Lincolnshire Council has provided a super new changing room block, with showers, a community room and kitchen.
These facilities are also available to people of all ages playing other sports, including football and tennis.
Tomorrow, Brigg will be hosting Scunthorpe Town 3rds in division four of the Lincolnshire County Cricket League (1.30pm start).
Spectators will be very welcome at the Rec, with extensive car parking available as part of the redevelopment.
Brigg Town Cricket Club played its first season in 1974, with home games at the Rec, later going on to use facilities at Sir John Nelthorpe School and the Brigg Sugar Factory sportsground for Lincs League fixtures before returning to the Wrawby Road venue.
The club spent some seasons in the Lincoln League and the East Yorks Alliance before gaining re-admission to the county's leading competition.
Brigg Town CC's match ball sponsors for tomorrow's game will be former players N. and S. Fisher. Others have bought balls for forthcoming fixtures.
Brigg Town's chosen after-match venue this season will be the Lord Nelson, in the Market Place.
Broughton and Hibaldstow also have home games tomorrow.
