BRIGG BLOG REFLECTS ON A FOOTBALL SEASON THAT PROVIDED PLENTY OF INTEREST

Just to wrap up Brigg Blog's reporting of the 2017/2018 football season, here are the final tables from the EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District Football League - sponsored by a Brigg company based on Europa Way.
The tables show that Briggensians FC are promoted as runners-up in division two and that Barnetby United escaped the 'drop zone' in the top flight, following much better form during the final run in.
Our thanks go to Paul Birkitt, the league's fixture secretary, for keeping Brigg Blog up to date with games and results since last September, and also to Lee Fielden for pictures and reports relating to his beloved Barnetby United FC (example above).

Interestingly, there was a friendly football match played on Saturday afternoon (May 12) at Brigg Recreation Ground,  pictured above.
It went on at the same time as Brigg Town cricketers were staging their first home match of the season.
There were one or two instances of the football finding its way onto the cricket outfield but no-one managed to deposit a cricket ball on the football pitch!
It was pleasing to see two sports going on at the same time.
On Sunday morning we noted that the tennis courts at The Rec were fully utilised.
