BRIGG SCHOOL FOUNDATION TRUSTEE TO CONTINUE

Back in 1669, Sir John Nelthorpe made provision in his will to build and establish a school in Brigg and left land and property whose rents would help pay for education in the future.
The original school building, which opened to local scholars in the 1670s, is still there and now forms part of the Sir John Nelthorpe Upper School. It is the only grade one listed building in Brigg.
Almost 350 years later, Sir John's generous gesture and legacy continues and is administered by the Trustees of the Sir John Nelthorpe Foundation (not to be confused with the school's governing body).
Brigg Town Council has a representative on the Foundation, Coun Penny Smith, and she told fellow town councillors that she considered it a privilege to be a member. So much so that she offered to serve a further term from January 2017 - an offer taken up by the council.
She described the work undertaken as interesting.
