NEW PLANT NEAR BRIGG DESIGNED TO PROVIDE STAND-BY POWER

A new power generating plant is planned near Brigg.
North Lincolnshire Council is now considering a Certificate of Lawfulness application for the installation of a maximum of 10 generators, together with ancillary equipment, at the electricity sub-station site on Kettleby Lane, Wrawby.
The applicant is UK Energy Reserve, whose agent is UK Power Reserve Ltd.
Documentation sent to the council in support of this application says UKER proposes that the principal use of the site would be for the provision of standby electricity.
The generating plant would operate through a series of gas-fuelled engine generators with a thermal output of less than 50MW and a continuous electrical output of 20MW.
The proposed development consists of a maximum of 10 generators to produce standby electricity generation for National Grid. Each generator would be housed within an individual soundproof metal container.
"The generator market is constantly evolving and the final decision of whether to use gas or diesel-fired generator sets (and which exact models) would be made closer to construction in the next 2-3 years," says the submission.
"This decision would be based on availability of top-tier, highest quality generator sets and market conditions at the time."
UKPR is in discussions with the landowner to develop the site as a small scale power generating plant, and says the site is more than 90m north of the nearest residential properties.
"It is not anticipated that the Proposed Development would have any significant impact on this property or any other residential property in the vicinity," the council has been advised in the submission.
Council planners will accept comments on this application up to September 23. E-mail planning@northlincs.gov.uk
