BRIGG DAY TRIPS TO LONDON BY TRAIN

There's an anniversary coming up in Brigg that no-one will be celebrating.
October 1st will see the 23rd anniversary since the withdrawal of Monday to Friday trains along the Brigg line.
This reduced our station to Saturdays only status - the most infrequent service in the country.
Brigg rail line campaigner Paul Johnson kindly rang Brigg Blog about the anniversary and also posted a message on Twitter.
It would be good to think this will be the last year of one day a week trains.
The campaign continues for others to be added during the week, but there are no signs of success so far.
A generation has grown up without knowing a meaningful train service from Brigg station.
During the 1960s and 1970s (see picture above)  you could still get to London and back in a day via Retford.
If that service still existed, Monday to Friday, it would be possible for the well-to-do to live in the Brigg area and commute daily to jobs in the city.
