North Lincolnshire Council has issued an update on the Keyo Brigg Bomber World Quadrathlon Championships, coming up on Sunday, May 25 - the first time the World Championships have been held in this
country.
The council rightly says it's a
fantastic achievement for the Lincsquad Club that has worked extremely hard to
secure the event for the Brigg area.
Put a date in your diary, personal organiser, or even kitchen calendar so you don't forget to pop down and take a look on the big day.
Lincsquad has
held a number of multi-sport events in the town since it was formed in 2007 but
hosting the World Championships is a real step forward for them.
This gruelling
multi-sport event includes a 1.5k river swim, 7k kayak, 36k bike race and a 10k
run. Both individual and team entrants have been accepted so there will be a
good starting line-up. All places have been filled with entrants coming from all across the world to take
part.
Local sportsman
Steve Clark, who is highly favoured and expected to do
very well in the event, said: I'm really excited to be racing at
the world Quadrathlon Championships again and even more so as it’s in the UK for
the first time ever and then its gets even better for me as it’s on my local
course. The Keyo Brigg Bomber an event I have won three times in the past,
although I know this time it’s going to be much tougher as the start list is
packed with the current World Champion from Germany and former World Champions
from Czech, plus others. I’ll be given the event up most respect and all I’ve
got and hope it’s enough on the day. It's getting close now and I’m thinking
about the race every day and hope to have a lot of local support on the day. I'd
like to thank my sponsors for their continued support in 2014 Claud Butler,
Xterra Wetsuits, Metres to Miles, Tom Lane Physio, East Ferry Timbers and North
Lincolnshire Council. ‘Chase to Race the Dream’."
The event will
start at Ancholme Leisure Centre, Scawby Brook, at 8.30am with the river-based activities
taking place there. The cycle race will then see the competitors taking to the
roads of North Lincolnshire and into Lincolnshire as they head off through
Redbourne towards Snitterby. Then it is back to Brigg for the 10k road race
which will take the runners through the town centre.
Former Brigg Town Mayor Coun Carl
Sherwood, who is cabinet member for customer services, sport and leisure, at North Lincolnshire Council, said: This is a
wonderful achievement for Brigg and North Lincolnshire. It’s not every day you
get the Quadrathlon World Championships coming to a small town like Brigg.
Congratulations to Lincsquad Club, it is down to all of your hard work that this
is happening.
“This event is
putting Brigg on the map in the sporting world and it’s a great opportunity for
people to see world quality sport right on their doorstep – it is not to be
missed. I am sure that all the visitors from all around the world will recognise
what a great place North Lincolnshire is. Good luck to everyone taking
part.”
The Brigg
Bomber is organised by members of Lincsquad (Lincolnshire Quadrathlon) Club and
consists of a 1.5k river swim, 7k kayak, 36k bike and 10k run.
Over the last
few years the Brigg Bomber has hosted the British Quadrathlon Championships, the
European Quadrathlon Championships and now for the first time in the UK, the
2014 Brigg Bomber Quadrathlon World Championships.
Keyo
Agricultural Services - based in Brigg - is sponsoring the event, while Brigg Town Council is also offering its full support.
