MIXED FORTUNES FOR BRIGG AREA FOOTBALL TEAMS
There were some mixed results for football teams from Brigg and district on Saturday, September 7, as the Scunthorpe & District Football League, sponsored by Brigg company EC Surfacing Ltd, kicked off the 2019/20 season.
In Division One, Barnetby United won 4-2 away to Scunthorpe's AFC Honest Lawyer (see report below and pictures here from Lee Fielden).
Playing in Division Two, Barnetby United Reserves drew 2-2 when hosting New Holland (report at the end of this post).
Also now playing in Division Two, Brigg-based Briggensians lost 6-0 away to Ashby Bowl, thanks to a brace from Steven Broughton, one goal each for Michael Dempsey, Harry Tindall, Nathan Plaskitt and an own goal.
GOOD HONEST HARD-FOUGHT WIN FOR BARNETBY
A Josh Goodman brace and further strikes from Brendan O’Callaghan and Joe Stothard gave the Railwaymen an opening day victory away to AFC Honest Lawyer at West Common Lane.
Barnetby flew out of the traps and could have taken the lead within a minute but the keeper saved well from O’Callaghan. The forward also had 2 other chances before Joe Stothard headed home a corner at the far post to give Barnetby the lead.
Honest Lawyer came into game as they attacked up the West Common slope but Barnetby made it 2-0 through Goodman on the break.
Just before the interval Honest Lawyer got reward for their persistence and got themselves back in the game through Ashley Walker.
Barnetby now attacked up the slope to the Belvedere Road end and created plenty of chances but the ball wouldn’t go in.
The inevitable happened, as Lawyer pulled level at 2-2 with 15 minutes remaining when David Brown powered home a corner with a diving header.
Having surrendered a 2 goal lead Barnetby were then gifted a 3rd when O’Callaghan caught the keeper dallying on the ball and robbed him for the easiest of tap ins.
This lifted Barnetby and good work down the left saw Wilson send Green away, his exquisite centre was met on the run by Goodman who sealed the 3 points with his 2nd of the afternoon and his 22nd in a Barnetby shirt.
Lee's pictures show AFC Honest Lawyer (Light Blue) v Barnetby (Black & White Stripes). Honest Lawyer were formerly A.F.C. Queensway, the league kindly informs us.
BARNETBY RESERVES START WITH BATTLING DRAW
Ben Clark’s 1st game in charge ended as a 2-2 draw with local rivals New Holland Villa. Ben had assumed control of the side following the sad departure of long-standing Reserve manager Marcus Davies in mid-August.
Dave Barraclough made a rare appearance for Barnetby and kept his side in the game following an opening barrage from New Holland as Barnetby took time to find their feet.
New Holland took the lead but if was the “gaffer” himself who brought his side level.
The Reserves then took the lead as Shaun Clark, leading the front line, put them 2-1 up.
It was New Holland’s turn this time to bring themselves level and ensure that honours ended even at Silver Street.

Hi everyone. I will love to share a testimony with you. a few months ago, my man left me for another lady. I love him so much and all I could think of was suicide. I tried several ways, but none worked. I decided to read online and read about spells and spells. I tried it, lost a lot of money, but it was the same result. I almost gave up until I met a spell Caster that convinced me of success and I read people's comments on his website. I was skeptical when I contacted him because I lost a lot of money. With two weeks of casting a spell, my man returned home to me... Now my man is very docile and loves me more. I am now 2 months pregnant and happy to have him back in my life. I would advise you to contact this powerful spell caster, who gave me a second chance to happiness and love, I tried a few spells and none worked. If anyone can help you bring back your love and guide you in your search for life solutions, it is him. Contact him directly at -Email- blackmagicsolutions95@gmail.com ......You can also Whatsapp him on +2349083639501. Be blessed.
