NEW HOURLY 'EXPRESS' BUS SERVICE WILL SLASH JOURNEY TIMES BETWEEN BRIGG AND SCUNTHORPE

An exciting new HOURLY bus service is about to launch which will slash journey times between Brigg and Scunthorpe.
The X4 service from Hornsbys - 'X' we assume stands for express - will reduce the ride between Brigg and the centre of the steel town to just TWENTY-FIVE minutes, from the current forty minutes.
This will be achieved by avoiding the existing No 4 service section through Castlethorpe, Broughton and Ashby town centre.
Instead, X4 Brigg buses will travel directly along the A18 to Forest Pines roundabout, call at the Morrisons store stop on Ashby Lakeside Retail Park and then take Brigg Road, Scunthorpe (beside the steelworks) to the town centre bus station.
The new service will launch on Monday, July 2, 2018.
North Lincolnshire Council is being supportive, and details can be found through this link...
Ashby-based Hornsbys, which has been in the bus business for more than 100 years, anticipates that printed copies of the new timetable will be available to customers from Wednesday this week.
However, Brigg Blog is bringing you details a little ahead of that.
The X4 service will also serve Wrawby, Barnetby and Humberside Airport, Kirmington.
Hornsbys are calling it The DIRECT Service.
X4's Monday to Friday departure times from Cary Lane, Brigg, to Scunthorpe, from July 2, will be: 8am, 9am, 10am, 11am, 12 noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm and 5pm.
There will also be a bus leaving at 6pm from the stop near Wetherspoon's White Horse pub/restaurant.
All these will take 25 minutes to reach Scunthorpe town centre.
In addition, the No 4 service, via Broughton, will have the following departure times from Brigg: 4.50am, 6.25am, 7.05am, 7.25am, 7.45am, 8.30am, 9.30am, 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30am, 1.30pm, 2.30pm, 3.30pm, 4.30pm an 5.30pm.
There will be further departures from the Wetherspoon's stop at 6.30pm, 7.15pm and 8.50pm.
SO BRIGG WILL SOON BE ENJOYING A HALF-HOURLY SERVICE TO AND FROM SCUNTHORPE THROUGHOUT MUCH OF THE DAY.
The new timetable, operative from July 2, also includes times for other services of local interest:
C4: Brigg, Wrawby, Barnetby, Humberside Airport, Kirmington.
91: Brigg Town Service.
92: Brigg, Brigg Garden Centre, Cadney, Howsham.

94: Brigg, Scawby, Hibaldstow, Redbourne, Kirton Lindsey (and the 'Kirton Loop').
450: Brigg, Wrawby, Elsham,  Barton, Immingham.
To find out more about Hornsby's "new and improved services" visit www.hornsbytravel.co.uk or call 01724 282255.
Information can also be obtained at www.traveline.info or by calling 0871 2002233.
North Lincolnshire Council may well issue a news release about local bus service improvements nearer to July 2.

Still a poor service after teatime to Scunthorpe, but compared to the local train service this is Mecca.

Barnetby to Scunthorpe by "Express" bus- fifty minutes journey time operating every two hours Monday-Friday with the last departure from Scunthorpe at 16.00, Saturdays nothing but a token service to and from Brigg; this is poor when compared with the train at around fourteen minutes, every hour for around fifteen hours per day but slightly less on Sundays. All told there's nothing new here, just a shuffling of the pack with the same old cards on the table and remembering that an hourly express service operated between Brigg and Scunthorpe some years ago I'm not at all sure how resilient in the longer term this new offering will be.

I have some mixed feelings on the new timetable, the bus-stops in Barnetby still show timetables pre-dating the last change, the service east of Brigg is less frequent, but at least doesn't have the awkward school-run gaps. Brigg-Scunthorpe services are better, I think, with the combination of the 4 and 4X services.

I don't know how it's going to go, the transition might be messy for services which make bus timetables available. As with the displays at bus-stops, some are badly out of date already, even before this change. And Traveline can only find Barnetby railway station, directing you to a demolished pub to find the buses.

(Finding info on the internet is plagued with badly out-of-date directory sites. I have just been trying to find out if Stennets is still running, and was pointed to DDM on Old Courts Road. Google Streetview sometimes helps, until you hit a pedestrianised street.)
