BARNETBY FC FROZEN OUT OF CHALLENGE CUP BUT DECLAN GETS THE LYONS SHARE AS RESERVES TRIUMPH

REPORT AND PICTURES FROM LEE FIELDEN

On a bitterly cold day on a rock-hard pitch, Barnetby exited the Scunthorpe Challenge Cup after a 4-1 defeat.
For the second time in 3 weeks they travelled to Newport Drive, Winterton, to face The Butchers Arms, having lost 5-1 in the league on their previous visit.
Again following a raft of changes from last week, Barnetby were 2-0 down inside 10 minutes and facing an uphill struggle.
They came back into the game though as Josh Goodman pulled a goal back following great play from Glentworth and Bradley.
Sadly, on the verge of half-time, Butchers snatched a third to make the score line 3-1 at the interval.
The second half produced few clear cut chances for either side until Butchers notched their fourth to seal their place in the last 4.

Barnetby Reserves saw 2017 out in fine form as they recorded a 5-0 victory over Scotter United Reserves at a chilly Silver Street.
The sides met a few weeks ago and it was Scotter that came out on top as they edged a 5 goal thriller 3-2. Again 5 goals were scored but this time Barnetby notched all 5.
A Declan Lyons brace put the Railwaymen 2-0 up at the break.
Josh Smith made it 3-0 in the second before Lyons got another brace to take his total to 4 for the day.
Barnetby Reserves see the year out in 3rd place in a congested division 2 as a group of sides lie close together behind Crosby Juniors who are out in front on their own.
