BRIGG HORSE FAIR SAFEGUARDS PAY OFF

Brigg Horse Fair 2016 showing the close proximity of the site to the town's railway station which was clean and tidy when passengers arrived the next day

FROM PAUL JOHNSON, STATION PORTFOLIO MANAGER, GAINSBOROUGH, RETFORD & BRIGG BUS AND RAIL GROUP (GRaB)

After a number of years of the station being used as a toilet during Brigg Horse Fair, this year safeguards were put in place.
The Arriva Northern Rail mobile cleaning team were actioned to visit the station during the week and on Saturday morning.
We are delighted to report that these safeguards worked and the station was clean and tidy for  customers using it on Saturday.
Sadly there were areas near the station where customers had to negotiate large piles of horse manure, while fly-tipping was horrendous with dumped rubbish everywhere.
On the plus side we have erected posters on Brigg station and on the Cary Lane bus shelter for the First Responders and their need to attract more members to join.
At the end of Station Road, the Brigg Town Partnership leaflet box is empty and we are informed that a reprint is due in the future. This box has been very popular with visitors coming into Brigg by train.
The 0803 Sheffield to Cleethorpes train via Brigg was as popular as ever on Saturday (August 6). Passenger pick ups who stayed on the train to travel on the Brigg line were as follows:

  • Sheffield Midland 14
  • Woodhouse 5
  • Kiveton Bridge 4
  • Kiveton Park 10
  • Shireoaks 4
  • Worksop 29
  • Retford Low Level 23
  • Gainsborough Central 12
  • Kirton In Lindsey 2
  • Brigg 9
