BRIGG TOWN CRICKET SEASON STARTS THIS WEEKEND

Brigg Town Cricket Club has returned to the Lincolnshire County Cricket League and begins the new season on Saturday (April 19) with an away game at Broughton 2nds. This is a division four fixture, starting at 1.30pm.
Brigg Blog might well go over and have a look - weather permitting. If you are thinking of doing likewise, Broughton's ground is on Scawby Road.
Cricket seasons start earlier now than was once the case. When Brigg were first in the Lincolnshire League, in the late 1970s, we didn't start until the first Saturday in May.
Seasons now go on longer -  not finishing until mid-September. And that adds up to exactly five months' summer sport.
This overlap with the football, rugby and hockey seasons causes some problems with ground availability and with player numbers.
In the 1980s we used to conclude the Brigg hockey season with some inter-club friendlies at Brigg Rec on the Friday night, go down to the Angel Hotel for a sit-down dinner and (next day) switch into our cricket gear to begin another season.
The next hockey campaign began in September on the Saturday after we finished cricket.
All neat and tidy!
