There's an attractive pre-season friendly coming up at the Hawthorns ground on Tuesday, July 16 when Brigg Town entertain Grimsby Town (7.30pm).
This will bring back memories for older fans of the Zebras. Back in the late 1960s there was a famous pre-season fixture in which Doug Collins, star midfielder with the Mariners (then in Division Three) ran riot.
Not longer after that he moved to Burnley - then in the First Division (today's Premier League).
Brigg Town FC would really appreciate your support on Tuesday. The crowd will be swelled by a number of Mariners' fans making the trip to town, some, of course, being from the Brigg area. They will be hoping that Grimsby can, at last, win back their rightful place in the Football League at the end of the 2013-14 season, having suffered relegation some years ago.
Brigg, founded in 1864, are one of the oldest teams in the world; Grimsby were formed during the following decade. So both clubs well deserve the description "historic."
