Replacement of the wooden-gated level crossing in Brigg with a modern barrier version began last night (Saturday, March 14) and continues today until 2pm.
The A1084 closed to vehicular traffic at the crossing where Bigby Road meets Bigby High Road at 9pm last night as contractors began work, and this is scheduled to continue until 2pm today.
Drivers wishing to get to Westrum Lane, Bigby High Road, Brigg Garden Centre and Caistor are strongly advised to note these alternative 'local knowledge' diversionary routes:
- Bigby Street, Monument roundabout, Elwes Street, Cadney, Howsham, then rejoin the A1084 at Kettleby.
- Bigby Road, Monument roundabout, Wrawby Road, Kettleby Lane (Wrawby) then onto the A1084 at Kettleby.
The A1084 Bigby High Road will also be closed at the level crossing 'to any vehicle' from 9pm on Saturday to 2pm on Sunday on March 21/22 and March 28/29.
If you wish to get from Bigby Road to Bigby High Road on foot during the roadworks today and during the next two weekends while work is also being carried out, tell one of the contractors and they will arrange for you to be escorted over the crossing.
Network Rail Infrastructure is installing the new barrier-type crossing, which will have flashing warning lights. However, the familiar wooden signalbox nearby is being retained.
We visited the crossing early this morning (about 12.30am) and took these pictures.
