IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL TRAIN USERS IN THE BRIGG AREA


Here's an important notice for Brigg area train travellers making journeys over the next five months.
Due to work being carried out at North Lincolnshire's largest station in Barnetby, the steps on the footbridge giving access to platforms will be CLOSED at various times until late March 2019.
Many trains will also be diverted to different platforms.
During the work, passengers will have to use the inclined ramps instead, which takes longer than using the steps.
So be sure to allow extra time if you are going to Barnetby to catch a passenger train. And then be sure to check the display screens, and listen carefully to the loud speaker announcements, to ensure you are waiting on the correct platform.
Network Rail has positioned helpful staff on the footbridge to hand out leaflets, explain the situation to travellers, direct them to the correct platform and answer any questions passengers may have.
They had a word with us when we visited Barnetby recently to catch a train to Grimsby.
The company responsible for rail infrastructure explains: "We are making changes to the platforms to allow bigger freight containers to be transported by rail.
"Trains will run throughout the work but will serve different platforms than usual.
"We are partnering with the Humber LEP (Local Enterprise Partnership) and North Lincolnshire Council to invest more than £15m to support the growth of rail freight in the region.
"This will support the growth of local businesses and prevent the need for goods to be transported on the road network."

PLATFORM ALTERATION DETAILS
Monday, October 29 - Sunday, December 9: Platform 1 will be closed. Trains to Cleethorpes will use Platform 2.
Monday, December 10 - Sunday, February 10: Platforms 2 and 3 will be closed. Trains to Cleethorpes will use Platform 1 and trains to Scunthorpe and Lincoln will use Platform 4.
Monday, February 11 to Sunday, March 24: Platform 4 will be closed. Trains to Scunthorpe and Lincoln will use Platform 3."
There will be days when the steps from the footbridge are closed. However, the ramps will always be available.
Network Rail says it is sorry for the disruption this work will cause.
"We are working hard to keep this to the minimum possible and thank you for your patience while we complete this essential improvement work," the company adds.

The leaflet Platform Alterations at Barnetby Station carries the logos of Network Rail and TransPennine Express, which operates passenger trains between Cleethorpes, Barnetby, Scunthorpe, Sheffield and Manchester.
The leaflet does not make reference to the trains that run to and from Brigg only on Saturdays.

Is the Barnetby bus service still regarded as being a feeder to the railway? As far as I was aware that option was abolished many years ago when the then "Wolds Villager" was diverted away from the station approach and its evening journeys withdrawn. Looking at the current X4 timetable any relationship between this service and the railway seems unintentional and rather than being part of a planned and coordinated system the bus service appears to have been conceived as a purely local service.
