BRIGG BEER GARDENS TO DO ROARING TRADE IN TODAY'S HEAT

With temperatures in the mid-70s F (24C-26C) forecast for today's August bank holiday in Brigg we can expect the many beer gardens at town centre pubs to be awash with people keen to soak up the sun.
From the White Horse in the east to the Yarborough Hunt, White Hart and Nelthorpe Arms on the other side of the County Bridge, staff will be kept very busy meeting the demand.
And not forgetting the Black Bull, on Wrawby Street, where the palm trees in the beer garden will be very apt as the mercury rises up the thermometer.
Many folk will also enjoy a bit to eat to soak up some of the beer, wine and cider.

So it will be a good day for trade in all our pubs.
On a more serious note, today also sees a parade to remember brave soldiers who fought and died in 1917 during one of the great battles of the First World War.
Meet up in the Market Place before 12.30pm to take part.
From 1pm and  through the afternoon there will be a post-parade social event in the Britannia Inn, near the Monument, which has an extensive beer garden offering plenty of shade for those who want to keep out of the sun.
At one time on an August bank holiday, sports fans would have been able to watch Brigg Town Cricket Club in action.
But these days the Lincolnshire League only has August bank holiday fixtures for top-flight teams and Brigg has never reached the dizzy heights of the premier division since its debut season in the senior county competition back in 1976.

Yes, we were in the team back then!
