Brigg Blog was a shade late to capture the picture we were going to take of this rower on what proved to be a sunny and mild Sunday morning (February 19).
We spotted him coming down the river and should have taken it on the other side of the County Bridge, allowing us to use the title Brigg Spring has Sprung on Spring's Stretch.
For anglers were enjoying their sport on the section of the Old River Ancholme named after Spring's late lamented jam factory, which once fronted the waterway.
Sadly, by the time we got the camera ready the boat had emerged from the other side of the bridge and was heading off towards Ancholme Rowing Club HQ, off Manley Gardens (visible in the distance).
It was good to see people using the river for recreation in mid-February.
Two annual events at Glanford Boat Club are indicators of the changing seasons in Brigg.
We are talking about the days when large cranes visit the club on Island Carr to lift members' boats out of the water for winter maintenance and safe-keeping and then lower them back onto the Ancholme to herald the arrival of warmer weather and the start of the boating season.
"Lift in" 2017 will be on March 25 and "Lift out" will follow on November 4 - both Saturdays.Below is a picture we took of the operation last March.
Snowdrops can now be seen in many Brigg gardens and it won't be long before thousands of purple crocuses flower as a result of the planting scheme co-ordinated by the local Rotary Club.
They will be well worth photographing.

You could end up by being thrown in the Ancholme, Nige, by members of the ARC....!!!
The guy on the river is a SCULLER, not a rower.....he/she has got two oars, one in each hand......a ROWER has only one oar.
In practice, one can't have single rowers, or indeed, any odd numbers of rowers in a boat, as the team would end up going round the bend, literally!!
Chris Evans on Radio 2 mentioned the River Ancholme at about 6.30 this morning....
Somebody had telephoned the show to say the he's been up since 5.30 preparing bait for his fishing trip on the river....
