THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGING ON BRIGG RIVERSIDE

The new wall beside the Old River Ancholme in Brigg has now been completed. And directly opposite, across the waterway, the existing Lidl store is to close and a brand new one open on April 4, off Atherton Way. During discussions which took place many months ago, it was suggested the historic Brigg sign (above) needed to be preserved and would be preserved.  It was in the front of the main building at Spring's jam factory - on this site. After Spring's closed and the site was redeveloped, it was incorporated into the side of the store. That was in the early 1980s when what's now Lidl was erected for Hull-based William Jackson/Grandways. In case you didn't know, Tesco plan to redevelop the current Lidl site to provide a much bigger retail outlet in Brigg.

OK, Bob 'Scoops' Dylan - Can you whistle......

The Springs' sign was/is meant to be incorporated into Tesco's main entrance at the junction of Cary Lane/Springsway.........but since Tesco is still a little vague about developments such a proposal now become more fluid.

I perceive that once Lidl's move out from their existing premises (which already is owned by Tesco - a Tesco-related land agency - the building could become a target for vandalism - of perhaps the focus of metal theft.

Someone needs to establish the medium term plans - demolished - mothballed and etc...
